Wait Till Helen Comes

A couple of weeks ago, I read “Wait Till Helen Comes.” It was one of my favorite books!
It is about 2 girls who meet a ghost named Helen. Heather a little girl who thinks Helen is a friend she goes and meets her every day in the graveyard, Helen wants Heather to go to with her to a world where she lives. Molly (Heathers older sister) thinks Helen is a bad idea. Heather tells Helen when Molly is mean to her and Helen always does something to her. For example, Helen goes into their house while there all gone and destroys Molly’s half of the room. One day Molly and Heather went for a walk and find an old destroyed house.  They never expected what they found.
I like this book because Mary Downing Hahn does a great job explaining the book and giving details. For example when the girls are in the Graveyard I could picture what the Graveyard looked like. “Wait Till Helen Comes” is a great book for people who like thrills!

I give this book five paws!

Because of Mr. Terupt

The book Because Of Mr.Terupt is by Rob Buyea I think it is a very interesting book.

It’s the start of fifth Grade for seven kids at Snow Hill School. There is a girl her name is Jessica she is having trouble with a bully named Alexia AKA (Lexi). The characters names are Peter, Danielle, Jessica, Alexia, Luke, Anna, Jeffrey, and Mr.Terupt. But something happens to Mr.terupt that makes everything different.

I like this book because it is just a 5th grade class like our class but there are a lot of things that happen. Also Rob Buyea did a good job explaining this book and the characters. For example Rob Buyea had great details about what was happening in the book.

I give this book five paws.

The Calder Games

Have you ever felt strange about something going on in your town? If you do you could relate to this book.
It all started when Calder and his dad went to England and they saw a mysterious sculpture in the middle of the town. The townspeople get stirred up about this sculpture because they don’t know where it came from or who has donated it. When Calder tries to investigate, he meets this mysterious man and then Calder disappears. Will Calder ever find his way home?
I liked the book because it was like a cliff hanger the entire book. An example of this would on page 204 when it says “… From where they stood on a pile of rocks, both could see: Curled in the stern of the boat, wrapped in red blankets, was a body.”
I would recommend The Calder Games to people who like cliff hangers. Blue Balliett does a great job of explaining the setting when she was talking about the maze I felt like I was in the maze!
I give this book three paws!

The Odd Life of Timothy Green

The Odd life of Timothy Green
The Odd Life of Timothy Green is about Mom and Dad who want children but can’t have them naturally. They bury a box filled with things that they dream will come true. When they wake the next morning, they find a little boy in the kitchen. He’s dirty and naked and has leaves on his legs. Will he be the son they’ve always wanted?
I like this movie because Timothy isn’t afraid to show his leaves to anyone. I also like this movie because it shows that it’s okay to be different, just like when someone has a birthmark on their face or somewhere else and they think it’s embarrassing but Timothy doesn’t think his leaves are embarrassing.
I highly recommend this as a family movie for all families. I give this movie 5 paws.

Wreck It Ralph!

Wreck it Ralph is an action and adventure movie that takes place in an arcade. Ralph is a character who lives in a game, in a dump, literally! He wants to be recognized as a hero, so he abandons his game and goes to hero patrol. He gets a medal and takes a plane back to try to get to his game, but he lands in Sugar Rush (another game) he doesn’t want to be in. He meets a glitch named Vinellapie Von Sweets. She uses his “Gold Coin” (medal) to get in a race so she can be back in the arcade game as a permanent racer. (She was unhooked from the system by an evil candy king.) Now Ralph and Vinellapie have to do whatever they can to get Ralph his medal back and get Vinellapie in a race to be a real racer of the game.

I like this movie because of the action and adventure along with the race against time. An example of a race against time is when Ralph`s game is about to be shut down, he has to hurry to save Fix it Felix Jr. to save his game.

This movie is best recommended for ages 2-18. This movie is really great! I give it 5 paws!

My Brother's Keeper

I have been reading My Brother’s Keeper. It is a great book for people that like history because it is about a girl that lived in Gettysburg when the civil war was happening. This book was written like a diary. After her pa and brother, Jed, go away to help her uncle, she has to stay with a family. While she is there, she has to share a room with a girl that is in love with her brother. When the battle starts, she gets worried. Pa comes home without Jed, and they start to look for him in field hospitals. Will they ever find Jed? Is he okay?

I like this book because the author used parts of history in the book. An example of this is when Abraham Lincoln went to Gettysburg to give his speech. This is a great book.

I recommend this book for people that like history. I give this book 5 paws.

Jumanji

What would you do if your game came to life?

The movie “Jumanji” starts out when a boy finds a game hidden in the dirt walls of a construction area. He takes it home and his friend comes over to play, but finds herself in the game that keeps playing on. The boy rolls and some words come up in the center of the game board. Then suddenly he gets sucked up into the chimney and into the woods, but not just for a day, for decades. Years later a new family moves into the house and the kids there find the game Jumanji in the attic. They start playing it and suddenly they wish they had never started. Will they undo the magic that occurred years before?

I like this movie because it is exciting, funny, and makes you wonder what will happen next. It is exciting because they go all over town searching for answers. This movie is funny because whenever they get a new challenge, they never know what it means or what will happen until the moment occurs. I love this movie and I think that everyone would like it.

I would recommend this book for everyone who loves mystery and funny movies. I would give this movie 5 paws!!!!!!

Race to the Throne of Fire!

It is a good book it’s about two persons named Carter and Sadie. These Kids have powers that allow them to do spells in combat. In the Red Pyramid they had Egyptian gods controlling their bodies, this time there is no one to help them on their journey. They are on a race with the gods to the throne of fire. There are two gods that are trying to stop them from reaching the throne of fire. Along the way they wind up finding friends that also resemble the gods.

I really liked this book. I liked the way the author told the story through different characters. I could see what each character saw. For example when Carter and Sadie were practicing spells, it showed me what each of them felt, and saw their point of view every two chapters.

I recommend this book,I give this book 5 paws.

Sensational Syren!

Have you ever been stuck on an island well the characters in Syren have because the main characters dragon that they were riding on got struck with lightning. They crashed with no way to get back unless the dragon’s wing is fixed. But he can’t find anything to heal it with. Septimus Heap (one of the main characters) keeps seeing this girl come out of nowhere. He thinks it’s a ghost, but one night when he’s taking care of his dragon she comes to him. She asks if he could help her, and in return she would heal his dragon. When he agrees, she takes him to a small house on the other side of the island. He goes inside only to discover that she is possessed and she also says that if he does not close a hatch inside the house her master will get in (the one who possessed her) The hatch is farther inside so he has to make it there while avoiding the ghost that possessed her and he needs to go past a dark mysterious room which Septimus thinks the ghost is in. When he is half way through the room he sees the ghost. The ghost dives down and barely misses Septimus. Will he make it out without getting possessed?

I like this book because it is a mystery book and a Magic book there are deaths and there is not always a happy ending in each of the books in the series but there usually is a happy ending in the books though. It is a good series and there are 7 books in the series and each one is better than the other.

I recommend this book to people who like Mysteries and Magyk I give this book 5 paws.

The Doll People

Annabelle is not an ordinary doll; she is a doll that can talk. Annabelle has a mom, dad, brother named Bobby, an uncle, and a long lost aunt. Annabelle, Uncle Doll, and Bobby go outside the dollhouse, which is incredibly risky, to find Annabelle`s aunt. They are so desperate to find her they end up in the cat`s bed. They don’t find her there. But they don`t give up hope.

I really like The Doll People. The action and adventure that`s in this book makes it an interesting story of cause and effect. The cause of why Annabelle`s aunt left was spiders; she wanted to study everything about spiders as she left the doll house to search for them. And the effect it had on Annabelle and her family was there was a missing person that they missed, loved, and wanted back.

I would recommend this book for action loving readers. I give this book 5 paws!

The Black Stallion

Horses come in different varieties, big, small, or weak horses. The Black Stallion is about a boy, Alec, and a wild big stallion that is on a ship called “Drake”. Alec is in India over the summer to visit his Uncle. He gets on the Drake to go back to New York and sees a large stallion. Alec was shocked at how beautiful and big the stallion is. That night a storm hits and the ship wrecks. The Drake crashes, they go out to the open sea. A group of men see them swimming and help them on the boat. They get back to New York and Alec gets to meet he parents. Alec tells his parents about the horse and they let him keep the horse.

This book was recommended by my fourth grade teacher. I read a little of it in fourth grade, but I didn’t like it. However in the beginning of fifth grade I started reading it again. I liked it more than I did in fourth grade.

I liked this book because Alec is determined to train the stallion and make him enter a big race with other famous horses. Alec and his horse practice on a track at night without telling his parents. The stallion runs so fast Alec can’t hang on the whole time. They get better and better each night. When the day of the race comes, the black stallion gets nervous and gets a little wild. The author uses a lot of action when the stallion is in the race. The author described a lot of what was going on in the race and I thought I was right there sitting on a bench and looking at the track.

If you don’t have a book to read right now and you like books with action, I highly recommend this book. Overall I give this book 5paws.
